Viola Davis achieves the Coveted EGOT status with Grammy win for audiobook

Viola Davis is the fourth Black talent and third black woman in history to earn the coveted honor of an "EGOT" alongside Whoopi Goldberg, John Legend and Jennifer Hudson. "EGOT” is coined as the prestigious grand slam of an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony over a career. There is currently only 18 people who have achieved the status.

The actress, 57, picked up her first Grammy golden trophy for best audio book, narration, and storytelling recording at the event’s preshow ceremony on Sunday, for her audiobook for her memoir, “Finding Me.”

Davis already has an Oscar, two Tonys and an Emmy.

“Oh, my God," Davis said Sunday. "I wrote this book to honor the 6-year-old Viola, to honor her, to honor her life, her joy, her trauma, her everything.”
